ARCACHON AND ITS 4 SEASONS

Arcachon and its 4 seasons: a unique city to explore all year round

Nestled between the ocean and pine forests, Arcachon has a rare characteristic: the city is organized into four districts, each representing a season.

Imagined in the 19th century during the development of the seaside resort, this original layout tells the story of Arcachon and its way of life.

Winter Town, Spring Town, Summer Town, and Autumn Town create a true journey through time, landscapes, and the unique atmosphere of the Bay.

Each district has its own identity: spectacular architecture, iconic beaches, lively harbors, and natural promenades. All are places that invite visitors to discover Arcachon from different perspectives throughout the seasons.

From the Le B d’Arcachon hotel, located facing the Bay, you can set off to explore these unique districts and fully experience the Arcachon lifestyle.

Summer Town: the lively heart of Arcachon

Summer Town is the vibrant center of Arcachon. Lined by the beach and the seafront, it embodies the classic image of a seaside resort: lively terraces, walks along the Bay, and a true summer atmosphere.

The walk often begins at the famous Thiers Pier, one of the most iconic in the city. This long walkway over the water offers a magnificent view of the Bay and is an ideal starting point for boat excursions to Île aux Oiseaux or the Cap Ferret peninsula.

Just a few steps away is Pierre Lataillade Pier, the oldest pier in Arcachon. Once the arrival point for travelers coming to discover the seaside resort, it now hosts a charming wooden horse carousel that has become a favorite attraction for families.

Along the esplanade, restaurants and cafés invite visitors to enjoy the view over the sea, while Arcachon’s famous red benches line the promenade.

Summer Town perfectly captures the energy and elegance of Arcachon: an ideal place to stroll, admire the Bay, and fully enjoy the seaside atmosphere.

Autumn Town: the maritime soul of the Bay

Quieter than the others, Autumn Town connects Summer Town to the Aiguillon district.

Here, the atmosphere is closely tied to maritime life and the harbor.

The walk follows the Eyrac Beach and leads to Arcachon’s marina and fishing port, where visitors can observe the many moored boats as well as the famous pinasses, the traditional Bay boats once used for fishing and oyster farming.

For a behind-the-scenes experience, it is even possible to visit the fish market on a guided tour organized by the Tourist Office.

Information and bookings

Continuing along the promenade, you arrive at the Aiguillon district, a former fishing village that has preserved its identity. Its low houses with colorful shutters and oyster huts offer an authentic setting typical of the Bay.

It is also the perfect place to taste the famous Arcachon Bay oysters, accompanied by a glass of white wine while watching the boats.

Autumn Town thus reveals a more intimate side of Arcachon, where maritime traditions and the gentle pace of life come together.

Spring Town: nature and a gentle way of life

Like the season it is named after, Spring Town is a bright and green district where nature takes center stage.

The walk begins at the Chapelle Pier, perfectly aligned with the Croix des Marins and the Notre-Dame Basilica of Arcachon. This historic site reflects the city’s deep connection with the sailors of the Bay.

Continuing along the promenade, you reach one of the city’s most beautiful beaches: Pereire Beach. This long stretch of sand, bordered by lawns and a tree-lined walkway, is ideal for a bike ride, a picnic, or simply admiring the scenery.

Just a few minutes away, the Moulleau district offers an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Its pier, cafés, and shops make it a particularly pleasant spot to watch the sunset over the Bay.

Spring Town is thus a true haven of peace, where nature, heritage, and the art of living blend harmoniously.

Winter Town: a timeless district

Perched on the heights of Arcachon, Winter Town is undoubtedly the most spectacular district.

Its winding streets reveal eclectic architecture, blending neo-Gothic, colonial, and even oriental styles. These remarkable homes reflect Arcachon’s golden age and give the neighborhood an almost magical charm.

At the heart of Winter Town lies Parc Mauresque, a true green oasis perfect for strolling in the shade of century-old trees.

From the park, a pathway leads to the Sainte-Cécile Observatory, a metal belvedere rising more than 25 meters high. The view over the city, the pine forests, and the Bay is breathtaking.

Winter Town thus offers an immersive journey into Arcachon’s history, combining remarkable architecture with grand, scenic landscapes.

A city to discover through the seasons

Arcachon has a unique identity, shaped by its four districts and its deep connection to the sea.

From the lively seafront to the authenticity of the ports, from wild beaches to the spectacular villas of Winter Town, every walk reveals a new facet of the city.

Staying at the Le B d’Arcachon hotel, located in the heart of Summer Town, provides the perfect starting point to explore these four worlds and experience the full richness of the Bay.

Between nature, heritage, and the art of living, Arcachon promises an unforgettable experience… no matter the season.
